The research power of audiovisual primary sources

Thursday 21 May | 10am CT | 11am ET | 4pm BST

Audiovisual primary sources offer perspectives that written records alone can’t capture, from performance and emotion to atmosphere and lived experience.

In this webinar, AM’s Editorial team will be joined by Bryony Dixon, Curator of Silent Film at the British Film Institute. Together we’ll consider how these primary sources support critical thinking and enable interdisciplinary research across literature, film, theatre, politics, area studies and cultural history.

We’ll explore how scholars and students can use audiovisual sources to:

  • Analyse cultural and political movements as they were captured in real time
  • Compare visual interpretations of narratives across periods and geographies
  • Examine technological and artistic shifts in film and broadcasting
  • Bring marginalised voices and everyday experience into focus
  • Build engaging, dynamic learning experiences

Speakers:

  • Bryony Dixon, Curator of Silent Film, British Film Institute (BFI)
  • Alice Hone, Senior Development Editor, AM
  • Joe Young-Perez, Faculty Engagement Associate, AM
