These are exciting times for Adam Matthew Digital. We have been producing digital sources for a long while, but we have been gratified by the tremendous response we received to the launch of the new company.
We are delighted that our online collections are appealing to such a wide variety of customers around the world, from liberal arts colleges and public libraries to local university systems and major consortia.
We are also thrilled that many libraries have approached us to see if we can help them preserve their archives and generate royalty income by digitising their sources and making them more widely available.
I have personally spent time exploring a number of these projects in detail – from the American West collection at the Newberry Library and the Travel Writing Collection at Radcliffe, to the Nixon Papers at TNA and new projects on American Social History (which I cannot yet reveal).
As always, it is a privilege to look at many of these original sources and it is always fascinating to discuss them with scholars and librarians to see how we should best turn these into digital resources.
In 2008 I look forward to visiting customers in New England, Australia and New Zealand and to exploring archives in Cambridge, Edinburgh, London, Canberra, Ottawa and New York.

Thank you to all of the libraries and scholars who have supported us so far. In 2008 we will have 20 collections available with c.2 million pages of source material accessible for students and academics around the world. This demand for well crafted online teaching and research resources is fuelling further expansion with another 12 new collections due for release in 2009!
This success is keeping me very busy with a rapidly increasing customer base and consortial agreements in place in many countries. In 2008 I will visit the USA, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Taiwan and South Korea (our new environmental strategy is to have frequent conference calls where possible and to work in partnership with a carbon offsetting company that specialises in new green energy schemes).
I love meeting with libraries all over the world and presenting our latest collections; it is also fascinating to discuss these resources with leading scholars and to take their guidance on future areas to develop.
We also have a core group of global partners who help with transcription work, digitisation, hosting, sales and the IT infrastructure. Building and maintaining these productive partnerships is incredibly rewarding and enables us to further enhance the resources, keep development costs down and make the resources accessible to more institutions.

With new titles such as ‘American West’, ‘Victorian Popular Culture’ and ‘The Nixon Years’ it's great to be involved with the development of our exciting digital portfolio and to have the chance to constantly explore new archives all over the world. The new opportunities with digital publishing are fascinating and inspiring.
In the last few months I have been looking at a diverse range of sources including medieval manuscripts, slave cases in a variety of American court records, documents on quilombos in Brazil, a variety of maps for our slavery project as well as assessments of Kissinger’s shuttle diplomacy and papers on Watergate in The National Archives at Kew.
Slavery, Abolition and Social Justice now involves close on 30 different archives on both sides of the Atlantic and we are adding lots more content over the next year, including US Supreme Court records, further material on the Underground Railroad, items from the Schomburg Center and papers from Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the US South. These document Berea’s heritage and the battle to overturn the Day Law after 1904. It has been a pleasure to help in commissioning some of the contextual essays on these topics which give excellent added value to this resource.
The Medieval Travel Writing project is another example of bringing history to life following the journeys of a variety of travelers, ambassadors, missionaries, merchants and fantasists. With lots of interesting colour images, translations of manuscript texts and secondary literature, this resource has involved over 25 different libraries and archives. Scholars can use these types of materials successfully in the classroom and in their own teaching packs. These humanities resources truly benefit both teaching and senior level research across a wide spectrum of Humanities & Social Sciences departments.
I am a founder Director of both Adam Matthew Publications and Adam Matthew Digital.

As a Project Editor for Adam Matthew Digital my role is extremely varied and interesting and has taken me to archives and universities all over the UK and USA, meeting with archivists and assessing material for inclusion in our resources. I am also involved with liaising with academic editors and partner companies, quality checking images, indexing documents, attending conferences and researching new ideas for digital projects.
At the moment I am mainly working on our forthcoming Slavery, Abolition and Social Justice 1490-2007 resource.

As Project Editor for a number of digital resources, my role includes selecting archival material, commissioning Consultant Editors, and managing build and design. It’s a varied job, with plenty of space for fresh ideas: for example, I am currently developing new online features for our forthcoming resource Mass Observation Online, including an interactive slideshow and maps.
Researching new projects is another rewarding element of my role. It’s important to keep up to date with current
scholarship, so in the last year I have attended conferences in the UK and US, met with academics, and visited archives, in the search for exciting project ideas.

My role in Adam Matthew Digital is primarily devoted to sales. I am in contact with many customers across the UK, Europe, USA and Australasia on a daily basis, and therefore have the privilege of receiving a great deal of useful information from our users.
We listen to our customers, and their feedback helps us design the shape of the content, functionality, technical specification and pricing models on our family of digital resources. I travel a great deal and often work as a liaison between my editorial colleagues in the UK, and our academic editors abroad.

As a member of the Sales and Project Development Team at Adam Matthew Digital, I have the brilliant job of showcasing our digital resources to universities around the world.
This is a very satisfying role due to the great reception that they receive and it also gives me the opportunity to see students and scholars utilising the resources at first hand. I liaise closely with faculty and bibliographers to aid the process of acquiring our digital resources and I am always eager to hear their ideas for new projects.

Managing the content and accuracy of our websites is essential to our company’s online profile, and my role within Adam Matthew Digital reflects the need for a single point of contact for such administration.
This can involve uploading collection details onto our websites; managing our customer’s access details for both purchases and trials; managing the receipt of licence agreements; loading of MARC 21 records, as well as assisting with publicity, where possible. It’s a busy – and interesting – job!
