Jisc and Adam Matthew connect to make digital primary sources more accessible for UK Higher Education

A VAST SELECTION OF DIGITAL PRIMARY SOURCES ARE NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH A GROUP PURCHASING PILOT TO FURTHER ENHANCE UK TEACHING AND RESEARCH

UK Higher Education institutions are now able to benefit from a group purchasing pilot with Jisc which sees multiple Adam Matthew digital research and teaching collections made available to purchase at an exceptional discount level.

Aimed at supporting Higher Education institutions with a coordinated approach to acquiring digital primary source collections, the group purchasing pilot also addresses budget constraints by leveraging institutions’ collective purchasing power.

“We’re delighted Adam Matthew has joined this pilot to test new approaches to the purchasing of digital archival collections, a requirement that emerged from consultation with Jisc members. Digital collections of primary source material are increasingly used not just in research but also in teaching and learning to support innovative pedagogy and curriculum design. We hope that by working in collaboration with publishers we can make content more affordable for institutions and enable greater take up.”
PAOLA MARCHIONNI, HEAD OF DIGITAL RESOURCES FOR TEACHING, LEARNING AND RESEARCH AT JISC

Adam Matthew aims to inspire students and enable teaching through the digitisation of unique primary sources. The UK academic community can now select from six different collections within the scheme which cover themes of literature, society, and performance, and the history of discovery and innovation.

Between March-mid-July 2017 university libraries will be able to pledge their interest in any of these collections with the principle of “the more products bought collectively, the greater the saving”.

“Partnering with Jisc to explore new ways for institutions to purchase our resources is a great opportunity to utilise the buying power of the consortium whilst maintaining independent title selection by each institution. We are delighted that this initiative will give more universities the opportunity to offer access to this unique primary source content to their students, librarians and faculty.”
OLIVER STACY, HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL SALES
